Ms. Joey Leung

Assistant Director of Operations

Joey 1.tif

Ms. Joey Leung is a Registered Physiotherapist with comprehensive clinical experience in both acute and rehabilitation care with the Hong Kong Hospital Authority, as well as community service for various NGOs.

With a Master degree in Acupuncture, Ms. Leung has over 20 years of supervisory and managerial experience in her specialist field, geriatric rehabilitation.

Ms. Leung began her career with the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Welfare Council in 2004, assisting the development of rehabilitation services at Cheerful Court, Hong Kong’s first Senior Housing residential care home and rehabilitation clinic for the elderly.

Identifying a service gap for stroke patients between hospital discharge and returning home, she advocated starting a stroke rehabilitation programme in 2006, which was one of the first trans-disciplinary community services for stroke management. The programme has continued for over a decade since; with a successful record of returning most recovering stroke patients to their homes and reintegrated into community.

As a team manager, she has collaborated with private, public and academic sectors – recognised with various local and international awards – for development of seamless rehabilitation services, ranging from frail elderly in residential care homes to advanced community dwelling elderly.

This combined experience has convinced her that structured Prehabilitation (Preventive Rehabilitation) can delay deterioration of physical condition – and that maintaining good health can ‘add life to years’.
